The Fit List has been on summer vacation for a while. Now it’s back, with your list of upcoming races.

 

Friday, July 22:

Greenwave Challenge

This is a cross country race this evening at Mattoon High School’s cross country course near Lake Land College. It includes a 5K race and a 1-mile fun run. The race is a fundraiser for the Mattoon High School cross country program. Click here for more information.

 

Weekend of July 23-24:

Run for the Bagel

This race on Saturday in Mattoon includes a 10K run, a 5K run and a 1-mile fun run. Go to the race website at www.mattoonbagelfest.com/run-for-the-bagel-2 for more information.

 

Friday, July 29:

Midnight Mayhem

This 5-mile nighttime race is Friday, July 29, at Farmdale Reservoir near Washington. It is one of a series of midnight trail races throughout the year in various parks. Runners are required to wear a headlamp. Click here for more information.

 

Weekend of July 30-31:

Route 66 Half Iron, Iron Abe and Stoneman triathlons

My favorite tris! This event includes the Route 66 Half Iron distance triathlon (1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike ride, 13.1-mile run), Iron Abe Olympic distance triathlon (.9-mile swim, 24.8-mile bike ride and 6.2-mile run) and Stoneman spring distance triathlon (500-yard swim, 12-mile bike ride, 3.1-mile run). The swims are in Lake Springfield, with the biking in the surrounding countryside and the runs on roads near the lake. Bix 7

This legendary 7-mile road race, on Saturday, July 30, in the Quad Cities, draws a lot of elite athletes, thanks to the cash prizes. Joan Benoit Samuelson and Bill Rodgers will be at the race this year. There is also the Quick Bix, a 2-mile fun run/walk up one of the large hills on the course, and a Jr Bix on Friday night, July 29, with various distances for kids ages 12 and under. Wildlife Wild

This mountain bike race on Sunday, July 31, at Wildlife Prairie Park in Hanna City is part of the Illinois State Championship Race Series. For more information about the race series, go to www.pambamtb.org. Here’s a link for online registration.

 

Friday, Aug. 5:

Run4Raley

This race is the evening of Friday, Aug. 5, in Philo. There is a 5K run, a 1-mile walk and a ¼-mile Kids Mito Dash. The race is in memory of Raley Kirby, who died as an infant from a mitochondrial disorder, and it is a fundraiser for the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation. Weekend of Aug. 6-7:

SJO5K

This 5K race is Saturday, Aug. 6, in St. Joseph. There is a kids 1K fun run following the 5K. Go to https://sjo5k.com for more information.

 

Tom Short 5K Trail Run

This 5K is Saturday, Aug. 6, on the General Dacey Trail in Shelbyville. Participants can enter in teams of five runners, with team cross country scoring. Evergreen Lake 5K

This 5K race is Saturday, Aug. 6, at Comlara County Park near Hudson. There is also a ¼-mile fun run. Here is a link to the race flyer.

 

Two Rivers Century

This bike ride is Sunday, Aug. 7, in Kankakee County. There are several marked loops so riders can put together routes of distances from 22 miles to 128 miles. For more information, go to http://tworiverscentury.com/.

 

Palos Meltdown
