Weekend of July 30-31:

Route 66 Half Iron, Iron Abe and Stoneman triathlons

My favorite tris! This event on Saturday in Springfield includes the Route 66 Half Iron distance triathlon (1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike ride, 13.1-mile run), Iron Abe Olympic distance triathlon (.9-mile swim, 24.8-mile bike ride and 6.2-mile run) and Stoneman sprint distance triathlon (500-yard swim, 12-mile bike ride, 3.1-mile run). The swims are in Lake Springfield, with the biking in the surrounding countryside and the runs on roads near the lake. Bix 7

This legendary 7-mile road race, on Saturday in the Quad Cities, draws a lot of elite athletes, thanks to the cash prizes. Joan Benoit Samuelson and Bill Rodgers will be at the race this year. There is also the Quick Bix, a 2-mile fun run/walk up one of the large hills on the course, and a Jr Bix on Friday night, July 29, with various distances for kids ages 12 and under. Wildlife Wild

This mountain bike race on Sunday at Wildlife Prairie Park in Hanna City is part of the Illinois State Championship Race Series. For more information about the race series, go to www.pambamtb.org. Here’s a link for online registration.

 

Friday, Aug. 5:

Run4Raley

This race is the evening of Friday, Aug. 5, in Philo. There is a 5K run, a 1-mile walk and a ¼-mile Kids Mito Dash. The race is in memory of Raley Kirby, who died as an infant from a mitochondrial disorder, and it is a fundraiser for the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation. Weekend of Aug. 6-7:

SJO5K

This 5K race is Saturday, Aug. 6, in St. Joseph. There is a kids 1K fun run following the 5K. Go to https://sjo5k.com for more information.

 

Tom Short 5K Trail Run

This 5K is Saturday, Aug. 6, on the General Dacey Trail in Shelbyville. Participants can enter in teams of five runners, with team cross country scoring. Villa Grove Ag Days 5K

Evergreen Lake 5K

Two Rivers Century

This bike ride is Sunday, Aug. 7, in Kankakee County. There are several marked loops so riders can put together routes of distances from 22 miles to 128 miles. For more information, go to http://tworiverscentury.com/.

 

Palos Meltdown

Thursday, Aug. 11:

State Fair Parade Run

This race is the evening of Thursday, Aug. 11, at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield. The 2-mile run takes place just before the State Fair Parade. Click here for more information, and here for online registration.

 

Weekend of Aug. 13-14:

Crusader 5K

This race is Saturday, Aug. 13, at The High School of St. Thomas More in Champaign. In addition to the 5K, there’s a kids fun run. Race proceeds will help pay for technology equipment at Holy Cross School. Go to the race website at http://crusader5k.weebly.com/ for more information.

 

FLIP 4 Findlay 5K

Cruisin’ the Cornfields

This bike ride is Saturday, Aug. 13, in Sullivan. There are 16- mile and 41-mile routes, and the ride benefits Sullivan Area Arts. Here’s a link for more information.

 

L.A.T.E. Ride

This is a bike ride for the night owls, on Saturday, Aug. 13, to Sunday, Aug. 14, in Chicago. The 25-mile ride starts and ends at Buckingham Fountain and it goes through several Chicago neighborhoods and along the lakefront path. Live music starts at 10:30 p.m. and the waves of riders take of between 1:30 and 2 a.m. Riders can watch the sunrise over the lake before eating breakfast at the finish area.
