The Starting Line
Ryan Chalmers is on a road trip few would attempt.
Chalmers is crossing the U.S., from Los Angeles to New York City — his Push Across America — in his racing wheelchair.
He’s pushing more than 3,000 miles in 71 days, through Death Valley, over mountain passes and into the winds of the Plains states.
It’s been a while since I’ve done the Buffalo Trace Trail Run, and I’m looking forward to getting out there on Saturday. If anyone is running the new marathon in Peoria this weekend, I’d like to hear what you think of it.
Here’s the list for the next few weekends:
Weekend of May 18-19:
— Buffalo Trace Trail Run
I’m hoping the rain will hold off enough this weekend to get the Tour de C-U bike races in. They are fun to watch.
The Fit List has some running races this weekend too, if you’re recovered from the Illinois Marathon and looking to run. Here’s the list:
Weekend of May 4-5:
— Tour de C-U
Bill Iffrig — the now-famous 78-year-old Boston Marathoner who was knocked down by the first bomb blast — says he won’t be back at Boston again next year.
He’s not worried about another attack like the one that killed three people and injured nearly 200 more when two bombs exploded at the finish line of last week’s marathon.
It’s one of my favorite running weekends of the year — the River to River Relay in southern Illinois. Hills and more hills. Vans and more vans. Runners in tutus, Muppet costumes and fake butts (really). It’s awesome.
If you won’t be there, here are some other races to consider:
Weekend of April 20-21:
— Abe’s Mini Triathlon and Pioneer Sprint
