The Starting Line

Staying warm on a winter run

Temperatures in the single digits? Several inches of snow on the ground?

You don’t have to skip the outdoor runs and migrate indoors to the treadmill or the couch.

The Fit List

Saturday’s Siberian Express will much warmer and less snowy than last year. That’s too bad, but it will be a good time anyway. Be sure to head out to Kickapoo State Park for the run. It starts at 11 a.m. Here’s the details of that race, and a few others for the month. No new ones, but I do have the race flier now for the Chilly Chili.

Illinois Marathon registrations up

The entries for all the races at the Christie Clinic Illinois Marathon were up 62 percent over the same time last year, as of the first of January.

Hood to Coast movie to be shown next week

Runners, you can catch the premiere of a new movie about the Hood to Coast Relay next week at the Savoy 16.

The movie is being shown in almost 350 theaters across the country on Jan. 11, 2011, in a one-night-only event. It will be shown at the Savoy 16 at 7 p.m.

Keeping a Record

New Year. New fitness resolution. New running log to record all those miles.

I love all those pages waiting to be filled with information about training, races and fun runs with friends.

The Fit List

Happy New Year!
The Fit List brings you some races for the the last day of this year and the first month of the new year —  so you can end 2010 and start 2011 off right.

Aches and Pains

Injuries are a pain in the butt. In my case, literally.

Winter Motivation

Sticking with your workout routine is not so easy in December.

There are presents to buy and parties to attend. It’s also cold and dark, and there’s snow on the ground. All that makes it hard to get out for a run or to the gym for an exercise class.

Fit for a present; fit in the future.

Athletes are notoriously picky about their stuff.

The Fit List

Jingle, jingle, jingle. The Jingle Bell Run is this weekend in Champaign.
As there are fewer races during the winter months, I’m going to post those that I know of through early January. The Fit List will appear occasionally for the next few months, rather than every week, to update you on events.
Happy running/biking/etc. in the New Year!
