This run/walk didn’t make it into The Fit List last Friday, but it’s coming up this weekend. If you’d like to honor military men and women from Illinois who died in Afghanistan and Iraq, head to Charleston on Saturday.
— Run/Walk for the Fallen
Good luck to everyone running Howl at the Moon this weekend! Looks like you’ll have some nice cool weather.
Here’s what else is going on:
Weekend of Aug. 11-12:
— SJO5K
This is a 5K run and walk and a kids 1K fun run in St. Joseph on Saturday. The race is a fundraiser for the St. Joseph middle school and high school cross country programs.
This Sunday, up to several dozen Bloomington-Normal runners will get together for a run and breakfast.
It’s a chance for them to run together and socialize. It’s also a way to raise money for a good cause.
I wrote recently about open water swimming and some local women who are swimming races in lakes and rivers.
Good luck to everyone doing the Champaign Park District Mini-tri on Saturday. I’ll be swimming this weekend at Evergreen Lake. The Fit List has runs, rides and tris coming up. Here’s the list:
Weekend of Aug. 4-5:
— Two Rivers Century
This Kankakee County bicycle ride on Sunday offers six distances — 22, 47, 62, 80, 100 or 124 miles.
A group of area runners completed the St. Jude Champaign-Urbana to Peoria Run recently.
Some good races coming up. Saturday is the inaugural (and sold out) Big Ten Network’s Big 10K in Chicago. If you’re running it, I’d like to hear how it went.
Here’s the list of races you can still get into.
Tonight, July 27:
— Detweiller at Dark
Becky Dey of Champaign has always loved being in the water, but it was when she was recovering from a running injury that she got more serious about swimming.
Dey took some swim lessons in the mid-1990s, joined a master’s swim team and then started swimming more in open water.
“I always liked swimming outdoors, in rivers and lakes,” she said.
Good luck to all the St. Jude runners this weekend who are heading to Peoria. Here’s the other runs going on:
Weekend of July 21-22:
— Run for the Bagel
Check out the Fisher Fair 5K on Saturday if you’re looking for a fun race to run. It always gets a good crowd. I’m waiting to race again until the following weekend and the Bagelfest in Mattoon.
Here’s the list of races for the next couple of weekends:
Weekend of July 14-15:
— Fisher Fair 5K
