Last minute help with Medicare enrollment

The Wednesday open enrollment deadline for Medicare Advantage and prescription drug plans is coming up fast. But some last-minute help is available for procrastinators, or those who may have missed hearing about the earlier end to the enrollment period this year.

Volunteers through the Senior Health Insurance Program (SHIP) are available for free assistance on finding and comparing plans, according to the Illinois Department of Insurance.

Call the SHIP toll-free hotline at 1-800-548-9034. It’s available from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.
Or see the website at https://insurance.illinois.gov.

A SHIP counselor will also be available in Paxton for free one-on-one counseling to help with Medicare enrollment options at the Ford-Iroquois Public Health Department 235 N. Taft, Paxton, according to the Department of Insurance.

Help is available through Wednesday, but you must call 379-9281 for an appointment, according to Ford-Iroquois Public Health.

Seniors can also go directly to Medicare to view or compare plans, enroll or ask questions.
