Art, moms and more: weekend Family Picks

It's spring in Champaign-Urbana, and that means lots to do this weekend inside and out.

First up is the Boneyard Arts Festival, happenin' throughout Champaign-Urbana and the county this weekend. Enjoy enjoy music, art, theater and more. Check the News-Gazette’s calendar, www.news-gazette.com/calendar, or www.40north.org for more information.

A few highlights for kids:

— “CU Theatresports:” Live comedy improv suitable for all ages is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday at Class Act in downtown Champaign. Tickets are $5.
— Puppet Bike: This mobile hand-puppet theater on wheels, known for popping up along the Magnificent Mile, will make its local debut at noon Saturday in downtown Urbana. Free.
— Music/dance: The Urbana Free Library will host free performances by local students Friday and Sunday. The Prairie School dance troupe will perform tap, jazz and hip-hop at 4 p.m. Friday, and the Leal School dance troup and chorus will prform from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Other family friendly events this weekend:

— Moms Day concerts: Two popular UI chorale groups will perform Saturday at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts Great Hall, 500 S. Goodwin Ave., U: the Women’s Glee Club at 2 p.m. (tickets $4 to $10) and the Black Chorus at 7:30 p.m. Saturday (tickets $8 to $11).

—  Storytelling Festival: An eclectic mix of stories from around the world, from humorous to tragic, will be told by University of Illinois graduate library students, alumni and faculty, 7 p.m. Saturday, Spurlock Museum auditorium, 600 S. Gregory St., U. Tickets are $5 to $8 at the door. (Caution: at least one story is not appropriate for children.)

— “Back to the Future,” part of the News-Gazette Film Series, will be shown at at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday at the Virginia Theatre, 203 W. Park St., C. Tickets are $5. Call 356-9063 for information.

— “Ready. Set. Grow!” This United Way event will will showcase information and services available in Champaign County for parents and caregivers of children from birth to age 6, from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Lincoln Square Village, Urbana. Lots of games for the kiddos will be available.

— "Seussical the Musical," Central  High School's spring musical, is set for 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $5 for children, $7 for students and $10 for adults. Shows are in the Decker Theater at Central, 610 W. University Ave., C.
