Illini duo on Stopper Award watch list

Two Illini pitchers were named to the Stopper of the Year Award watch list by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

Redshirt sophomore right-hander Reid Roper and junior right-hander Ronnie Muck are among 75 pitchers on the initial watch list. The annual award is given to the NCAA's top relief pitcher in Division I.

Roper and Muck each recorded three saves last season to tie for the team lead. Roper, who doubles as Illinois' starting second baseman, was 1-0 with a 4.05 ERA in 13 appearances in 2012. Muck was 2-1 with a 4.36 ERA in a team-high 23 appearances.

The two Illini are joined on the list by three other Big Ten pitchers: Josh Dezse of Ohio State, Kyle Ruchim of Northwestern and Dylan Vogt of Nebraska.
