June, 2010 has been one of the wettest Junes on record for parts of central Illinois. The weather pattern has featured a persistent storm track that has brought numerous weather systems through this part of the Midwest. Several frontal boundaries have stalled across the area, and been the focus for days of heavy rain. Through June 23, new June rainfall records have been established for Galesburg (12.71") and Lincoln (10.75").
Meanwhile, the 6- to 10-day outlook calls for a pattern shift with below-normal rainfall ahead for areas from the central and southern Plains into the Midwest.
In the short-term, however, heavier rainfall will fall from the northern Plains into the Northeast. Any rainfall in the Southeast could be enhanced by an approaching, tropical system.
