Beneficial rains underway...
Low pressure on the Plains will send scattered showers and thunderstorms into Illinois Saturday. The precipitation will expand eastward, but areas southeast of I-70 will most likely remain dry. Temperatures will return to above normal levels over the weekend.
Elsewhere, a much stormier pattern will continue to evolve over the Lower 48 States. The storm system over the Intermountain West will drift northeastward, reaching the upper Midwest during the weekend. Meanwhile, a series of cold fronts will push ashore in the Northwest.
By early next week, a new storm system will take shape over the north-central U.S., generating windy, unsettled weather across much of the northern half of the nation.
During the next 5 days, precipitation could total as much 1-to 2-inch across the Midwest.
