A quiet, mid-Winter pattern...

Locally, quiet weather prevails for Friday, but cloudy conditions will persist along with the chance for snow flurries.

Elsewhere, a relatively tranquil pattern will prevail nearly nationwide for the next several days, although a series of fast-moving disturbances will produce some snow from the Great Lakes region into the Northeast. In addition, showery weather will return to the Pacific Northwest and the western Gulf Coast region during the weekend.

Early next week, a surge of Arctic air will arrive across the Plains and Midwest.

The 6- to 10-day outlook calls for below-normal temperatures across much of the Nation.  Meanwhile, near- to below-normal precipitation across the majority of the U.S. will contrast with wetter-than-normal conditions in the north-central U.S. and along the Gulf and Atlantic Coasts.
