A welcome thaw well underway...
Unseasonably mild temperatures are expected to continue through early next week. Highs should reach the 60s over most areas on Thursday, which may come close to record levels in some parts of the area. Snow on the ground will continue to melt away quickly, with the run-off from which will cause rises on several rivers and streams. Minor flooding will be likely, and with ice jamming.
A stiff southerly wind will bring increasing amounts of moisture northward from the Gulf of Mexico, with the result being occasional fog, drizzle, and perhaps some light rain.
After a short dry period, a storm system will move from the Plains into the Midwest, bringing a chance of showers beginning Saturday night and continuing periodically through early next week.
