An initial wave of showers & t-storms has pressed through during Tuesday morning. However, the strongest storms of the day are expected this evening ahead of low pressure and a cold front. The system will be moving from southwest to northeast.
There is a moderate risk of severe storms defined for areas that should be in the path of the cold front. The slight risk area encompasses the remainder of central Illinois. The wind shear and instability in the atmosphere will be favorable for all types of severe weather, including large hail, damaging wind, tornadoes and flash flooding. The storms should develop just to the southwest of our area early this evening, and progress northeastward. The arrival of the storms should be between 6 pm and midnight for most of central Illinois.
