The Weather Front On-Line (April 2011)

A big warm-up ahead for the weekend...

Much warmer weather will be on tap over the weekend, with temperatures climbing into the lower 80s by Sunday. A strong cold front will approach from the west by late in the day, potentially triggering a round of strong to severe thunderstorms Sunday night.

A warm-up ahead for the Midwest...

Across the Corn Belt, a chilly rain is falling across northern areas, including southern portions of Wisconsin and Michigan. Some pre-planting preparations are underway, especially in the southern Corn Belt.

Very limited fieldwork across the Corn Belt...

Across the Corn Belt, cool, dry weather prevails. A limited amount of fieldwork is underway; for example, 6% of Iowa’s oat crop was planted by April 3, compared to 25% at the same time last year.

An active pattern across the Heartland...

Across the Corn Belt, showers and locally severe thunderstorms precede and accompany the passage of a strong cold front. The heaviest rain is falling from Ohio into southeastern Missouri. Windy, colder conditions trail the cold front across the western Corn Belt.

A wetter pattern ahead...

Across the Corn Belt, light precipitation (rain and snow) is falling in parts of the upper Mississippi Valley. Cool, dry weather covers the remainder of the Midwest.
