Strong Winter storm to impact the Heartland

Strong Winter storm to impact the Heartland

A strong winter storm system is expected to push out of the southern Plains late today and track across central Illinois tomorrow.

Ahead of this system rain and thunderstorms will develop Wednesday night which will change over to snow tomorrow morning west of the Illinois River, and over the remainder of the area tomorrow afternoon.

The forecast track of the low has shifted farther northwest compared to previous thinking.  As a result, with the low now expected to track near Springfield tomorrow morning, the heavy snow band is expected to well to the west and north on through tomorrow.

However, there is the potential for high wind, with gusts to near 55 mph tomorrow.  In addition, sharply colder air will settle in behind the storm.
