A Summer-like spell ahead for the weekend...

Across the Corn Belt, rain is slowing or halting spring fieldwork across central and eastern areas. Meanwhile, snow-melt flooding continues to worsen in parts of the upper Midwest, including the Red River Valley.

A big warm-up ahead for the weekend...

Much warmer weather will be on tap over the weekend, with temperatures climbing into the lower 80s by Sunday. A strong cold front will approach from the west by late in the day, potentially triggering a round of strong to severe thunderstorms Sunday night.

A warm-up ahead for the Midwest...

Across the Corn Belt, a chilly rain is falling across northern areas, including southern portions of Wisconsin and Michigan. Some pre-planting preparations are underway, especially in the southern Corn Belt.

Very limited fieldwork across the Corn Belt...

Across the Corn Belt, cool, dry weather prevails. A limited amount of fieldwork is underway; for example, 6% of Iowa’s oat crop was planted by April 3, compared to 25% at the same time last year.

An active pattern across the Heartland...

Across the Corn Belt, showers and locally severe thunderstorms precede and accompany the passage of a strong cold front. The heaviest rain is falling from Ohio into southeastern Missouri. Windy, colder conditions trail the cold front across the western Corn Belt. 

A wetter pattern ahead...

Across the Corn Belt, light precipitation (rain and snow) is falling in parts of the upper Mississippi Valley. Cool, dry weather covers the remainder of the Midwest.

Warmer weather to the west...

Across the Corn Belt, cool, mostly dry weather continues. Wet conditions have limited spring planting preparations in the southern Corn Belt, while lowland flooding is affecting parts of the upper Midwest.

Still cool across the Midwest...

Across the Corn Belt, cold, mostly dry weather prevails, except for a few snow showers in the Ohio and middle Missouri Valleys. In the upper Midwest, cold weather has reduced runoff into swollen creeks and river.

More cold weather across the Corn Belt...

Across the Corn Belt, cold, mostly dry weather prevails. A few snow showers dot the central Corn Belt, while lowland flooding persists across portions of the western Corn Belt.
