Bar of the Week: Seven Saints
32 E. Chester St, Champaign, 61820-4010
Phone: (217) 351-7775
Housed in what used to be Johnston's Sporting Good Store and Dan's Hat Shop, just east of the Esquire, Seven Saints is the latest venture by the Nieto brothers.
Described by General Manager Andy Borbely as "the quintessential downtown bar", this bar's modern interior decorating provides a Gothic feel, with iron chandeliers and seating in the main area provided by black, fixed benches made from old church pews.
Their kitchen is open until 1am (11pm on Sunday), providing an eclectic menu offering everything from gourmet burgers to cheese curds, from a $2 burger to a fillet mignon. As Andy puts it, "there is a time of day, meal of choice and drink for everyone".
Vegetarians are not left out either since a "Boca" patty can be substituted for any of their meat sliders.
The same company that owns Seven Saints also runs several other downtown bars: The Highdive, Jupiter's, Guidos, Soma and Cowboy Monkey.
