he Baroque Artists of Champaign-Urbana will present the magnificent oratorio Solomon by George Frideric Handel on Saturday, March 15, at 7:30 p.m. at Smith Memorial Hall. University of Illinois Professor Chester Alwes Jr. will conduct the orchestra, chorus, and soloists including countertenor Jay Carter (as Solomon) and sopranos Sherezade Panthaki, Meagan Smith, and Leann Schuering. This oratorio is widely regarded as the most sensuous of Handel's biblical works, featuring impressive double choruses, the popular "Arrival of the Queen of Sheba" march, brilliant arias, and sumptuous orchestration. Tickets prices are $18 for general admission, $15 for senior citizens, and $10 for students (for students only: buy one, get one free).
