Sesquicentennial Lincoln-Douglas Debates Reunion Tour

Bement Veterans Park and Bryant Cottage State Historic Site off Route 105 , Bement

Description:

Lincoln and Douglas actors as well as a guest speaker from the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum will start the celebration at 10 a.m. in Bement's Veterans Park off Route 105. Observe Lincoln and Douglas' grand entrance into the park at 10 a.m. during a "Prairie Ovation." Free children's games from the 1850s will be offered throughout the day at Bryant Cottage State Historic Site as well as a Civil War re-enactment. Period crafts will be available. At 1 and 2 p.m. "The Bement Story," play will be performed at the Bement Methodist Church for free. Private visits with Lincoln and Douglas in "The Big House"; avaialable for a $5 fee at 1, 1:45, and 2:30 p.m. The event will conclude at Veterans Park with a free show of the Bement Community Band and the Monticello Summer Singers.
