When:

Thursday Nov 13, 2008 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm

Description:

The program for the November general meeting will be on pending legislation and current programs to help children experience and interact with nature. Speakers will be Sarah Livesay, President of the Environmental Education Association of Illinois, and Judy Miller, Environmental Program Manager of the Urbana Park District. The public is welcome to attend. Livesay will discuss research that shows the importance of outdoor, hands-on, experience for the physiological, psychological, and physical well-being of children and will describe provisions of the "No Child Left Inside" (NCLI) Act that recently passed the House (H.R. 3036) and is pending in the Senate (S. 1981). Passage of the NCLI Act would create funding and incentives for states to improve environmental education and to incorporate outdoor experiences into classroom curricula. Miller will describe current environmental education programs of the Urbana Park District.
