Description:

"Countering Pharaoh's Production: Consumption Society Today," a five-week study and discussion for adults facilitated by Tom Watembach, 9 to 10 a.m. Sundays, Nov. 16, 23; Dec. 7, 14 and 21, Conference Room. This new study from the Center for Progressive Christianity features Walter Brueggemann, famed Hebrew scripture scholar, retired Columbia Theological Seminary professor, UCC minister, and author. The series focuses on the Exodus story from the Hebrew Scripture. It shows how all of God's people - from Israelites fleeing the slavery of Pharaoh's Egypt to today's Christians battling consumerism - struggle with the temptation to hang onto the status quo and things that enslave us, rather than step out of our comfort zone and claim God's promise of freedom from sin and bondage.
