Description:

Students, friends, neighbors and cancer survivors are coming together at the University of Illinois Ice Arena for a fun and energizing night of skating on Dec. 7. The kick-off celebration will be Dec. 7, 6 to 8 p.m., at the University of Illinois Ice Arena. Anyone who is interested in signing up a team or who wants to learn more information about Relay is encouraged to attend. In addition to learning about the new theme and fund-raising ideas for the annual Relay, guests will enjoy free ice skating and snacks will be available. Relay For Life is an overnight event where teams of local businesses, schools, churches, community groups and families build awareness and raise funds - prior to and at the event - to fight cancer. For the U of I, many of the teams are comprised of registered student organizations, University departments and campus dorms. This year's American Cancer Society Relay For Life of University of Illinois will be from 7 p.m. March 13 to 7 a.m. March 14 at the University of Illinois Armory, Champaign. Volunteers are needed to organize and recruit teams, secure community support, coordinate logistics, obtain refreshments and prizes, assist with publicity and plan entertainment activities. For more information on the kick-off celebration, contact the American Cancer Society at 356-9076 or visit www.relayforlifeuofi.com. Teams are encouraged to register on-line anytime. Donations may also be made on-line. For the most up-to-date cancer related information and to join the fight against cancer, call 800-ACS-2345 or visit www.cancer.org.
