Description:
Holy Week will be observed with two special services and the congregation's Easter celebration will be held at a special time.
On March 20, Maundy Thursday, Immanuel congregation will commemorate the Institution of the Lord's Supper with a service of Holy Communion. This service, which begins at 7 p.m., will conclude with the stripping of the altar in preparation for the congregation's Good Friday observance. Pastor Lynn Podoll's sermon, "Caught Red-Handed," and will be based on John 13:21-30.
Before the service that evening, from 5:30 to 6:30, Immanuel's Lutheran Youth Fellowship will serve their last soup and salad supper. No charge for this meal, but donations are used to assist the youth of the congregation in funding their various activities, including a planned mission trip to Ruiz, Mexico, this July. On Good Friday, March 21, a Tenebrae service at 7 p.m. will feature the seven-part choir work called "Shadows" by Douglas E. Wagner, sung by Immanuel's Senior Choir. This unique worship experience is the only service in the year in which the congregation is encouraged to leave without speaking to continue their meditation into the evening or remain in the church sanctuary as long as the individual wishes for personal prayer and reflection. All members of the community are invited to share this very moving experience.
On Sunday, March 23, Immanuel Lutheran will celebrate The Festival of the Resurrection of Our Lord with a special service of Holy Communion at 7 a.m. Pastor Lynn Podoll's sermon, "Good Wolf, Bad Wolf," and will be based on the Easter Gospel from St. Matthew 28:1-10. Special music from the Senior Choir of Immanuel will be a highlight of the service, which will also include a brief drama as part of the festivities.
Following the service, Immanuel's Men's Club will serve their traditional Easter breakfast for all, beginning around 8:15. Donations for this meal will support the charitable works of the Men's Club.
