DANVILLE — The high-flying aerialists and acrobats of Cirque de la Symphonie will perform with the Danville Symphony Orchestra on Saturday at the David S. Palmer Arena, 100 W. Main St.
URBANA — Pianist Moye Chen, the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts' 2013 Debut Artist, will perform at 3 p.m. April 21 in the Foellinger Great Hall.
Chen received his bachelor's and master's degrees from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and an artist diploma at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. At the University of Illinois, Chen studies with Professor William Heiles.
The cinema enthralls us with illusions within illusions, and even the most obvious can quickly become complicated. Take acting, for example. It's basically a performer pretending to be someone else, and that in itself can be extremely nuanced and complex. But sometimes that complexity derives simply from the fact that one actor portrays more than one character, often at the same time.
CHAMPAIGN — The winners of the Young Baroque Artists Competition will perform in concert at 7:30 p.m. April 21 at McKinley Presbyterian Church, 809 S. Fifth St., C.
The program will begin with the presentation of the first- and second-place winners and the three honorable mention performers.
URBANA — WILL-TV will air a new special, "Ebert Remembered," at 8 p.m. Thursday. It will highlight excerpts of WILL-TV interviews with Roger Ebert in which he talks about his childhood in Urbana, his experiences at the University of Illinois and his role as a movie critic.
DANVILLE — The DHS Players will present their spring production, "Steel Magnolias," at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Dick Van Dyke Auditorium at Danville High School, 202 E. Fairchild St.
The play, written by Robert Harling, depicts the story of the ladies in Truvy's small-town beauty parlor who love each other, even as they argue and gossip about practically everything.
CHAMPAIGN — Now in its third year, the "Art of Science: Images from the Institute for Genomic Biology" exhibition will open on Thursday evening at the Indi Go Artist Co-op, 9 E. University Ave.
URBANA — University of Illinois students will present the medieval "Play of Antichrist" on Friday and Saturday at the McFarland Memorial Bell Tower on the UI's south quadrangle.
CHARLESTON — The Tarble Arts Center will host an exhibition gallery talk and lecture this week in connection with the exhibit "Experiences of the Illinois Civil War Soldier: Reflections through Art and Artifacts."
