Veterans' art work to be on display starting on Tuesday

DANVILLE — The "Veterans Experience 2013" art exhibit will be on display from Tuesday through April 27 at the Danville Art League, 320 N. Franklin St., Danville.

The public can view the exhibit from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday through Saturday and from 6 to 9 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays. The art league is closed on Sundays.

UI press exhibit opening this week

CHAMPAIGN — The University of Illinois Press will host the annual Book, Jacket and Journal Show from Monday through April 12.

Sponsored by the Association of American University Presses, nearly 100 books and jackets — the best of university press publishing — will be on display from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays at the UI Press, 1325 S. Oak St., C.

Sky Gallery to showcase work of six artists

CHAMPAIGN — Six local artists will see their work on high: on the Sky Gallery billboards, a project of the 40 North 88 West Champaign County's Arts Council and Adams Outdoor Advertising.

Painting, calligraphy demonstrations set

DANVILLE — A live demonstration of watercolor painting and calligraphy by Jiang Rizeng will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Bremer Conference Center, Rooms 109 and 110 at Danville Area Community College, 2000 E. Main St., Danville.

The event is free and open to the public.

'Wavelength' exhibit opens Friday

CHAMPAIGN — The Indi Go Artist Co-op, 9 E. University Ave., will present the exhibition "Wavelength: CU's pulse as taken by Eric Frahm," from Friday through April 7. The opening is 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday.

Tom Kacich: McCollum pushes murals for downtown

Nearly 14 years out from his last year as mayor of Champaign, Dan McCollum is still thinking about ways to make the city more interesting, more memorable and to link its lively past to its vibrant present.

One chimerical idea, acquired on a recent trip to Greenville, is to help place murals featuring historical figures of the city on walls, particularly in downtown Champaign.
