UI to show slave-trade documentary tonight on campus

URBANA — The University of Illinois Department of African American Studies will present this evening a provocative documentary that explores the slave trade in the world and in U.S. history.

Fourth Jock Jams featuring UI student-athletes set Feb. 27

CHAMPAIGN — They can tackle, rush, pass, sprint, dive and catch ... but did you know University of Illinois student-athletes also have a theatrical side?

You can come see them sing, dance and act in a talent show for charity, the fourth annual Jock Jams, scheduled for 7 p.m. Feb. 27 at Huff Hall.

Presenters will share their interests at PechaKucha

CHAMPAIGN — Presenters will talk about their passions during PechaKucha C-U Volume 11 on Friday at Parkland College.

They include Parkland President Tom Ramage, whose topic is "Extreme Paintball." The other presenters and their talks:

— Luke Boyce: "5 Movies That Literally Changed the World."

— Vanessa and Doug Burgett: "20 Collaborations x 20 Days."

LeROY— Running a small-town movie theater is a rarity, but when the Hanafin family tackled LeRoy's Princess Theatre in 2006, they fell in love with the business.

Oh, they've done their share of carpooling and cheering for kids from the sidelines at soccer matches, hockey games and baseball tournaments.

All clear for takeoff: Rantoul air museum renaissance makes it worth another visit

It's almost back to its glory, the yellow-painted classic fighter modeled on ones a World War II ace used to fly.

The P-51H Mustang, restored in honor of Louisiana's Lt. Col. Claude Crenshaw, is "the belle of the ball" at the newly revived Chanute Air Museum in Rantoul, said curator Mark Hanson.

Reservations open for seniors' sweetheart banquet

DANVILLE — Reservations are now being taken for the 22nd annual Senior Citizens Sweetheart Banquet, sponsored by the Hoopeston Area High School student council.

The banquet is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. Feb. 14 at the high school gym, 615 E. Orange St.

The event is open to seniors in the Hoopeston and Rossville areas, and will include food, entertainment and socializing.
