Open-house visitors get firsthand look at Virginia Theatre's renovations

CHAMPAIGN – Sunday afternoon's Virginia Theatre open house brought back pleasant memories for Mary Wood of Champaign, whose son, Steve Wood, worked there as a manager in the 1970s.

Park board views Virginia marquee redesigns

CHAMPAIGN – As they work toward a final blueprint, members of the park district board on Monday saw a designer's version of the new marquee to ornament the Virginia Theatre next year.

CHAMPAIGN – Park board members on Monday will see and likely choose from among "three basic concepts" for the new Virginia Theatre marquee.

The only details the park district would release about the designs this week was that "they're all rectangular," said Laura Auteberry, director of marketing and development for the Champaign Park District.

Documentary wins two Mid-America Emmys

URBANA – Jay Rosenstein's documentary "The Lord Is Not on Trial Here Today" has won two Mid-America Emmy awards – one for historical documentary and the other for writing.

'Ed Wood' next in Danville library series on 'Movies about Movies'

DANVILLE – The Danville Public Library continues its six-month "Movies about Movies" film discussion series with a free screening of the 1994 comedy "Ed Wood" at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.

The screening will take place in the first floor meeting room of the library, 319 N. Vermilion St.
