CHAMPAIGN — If you've had a hankering for a gyro from Zorba's, this is your weekend.
Zorba's owner Matt Mortenson and his crew are back cooking the Greek specialty sandwiches along with pita and hummus and baklava at the Taste of Champaign-Urbana in West Side Park through Sunday.
URBANA -- Construction is expected to begin in October on the expansion of Common Ground Food Co-Op at Lincoln Square Village.
The cooperative's board of directors voted this week to go forward with a $1.6 million expansion that will nearly triple the store's retail space.

DANVILLE – Two Danville women have been planning how to bring new food-based businesses to Danville.
Carol Nichols and Jean Beck have started The Cooks' Workshop, which will offer commercial kitchen and restaurant space rental.

CHAMPAIGN – The intersection of Neil, Church and Main streets in downtown Champaign is closed to traffic through 3 a.m. Sunday to accommodate a bags tournament and the CuervoGames this weekend, Champaign police Sgt. Scott Friedlein said.
URBANA – Portions of four downtown Urbana streets will be closed this weekend for the annual Urbana Sweetcorn Festival.
Local pastry chef Ashlee Roderick has created several themed cakes for large competitions. The awards they've won prove her career also has a theme: excellence.
Roderick, 37, has competed in three competitions and is planning to enter another cake this fall in the Oklahoma State Sugar Art Show. She's a graduate of The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, N.Y., and has owned and operated The Cake Artist's Studio in Champaign since 2001.
