The Russian National Ballet Theatre came to the Tryon Festival Theatre at Krannert Center for the Performing Arts last week, and I attended the opening night Jan. 22, when this company performed the ballet "Don Quixote," one of the works created in 19th-century Russia by the great choreographer Marius Petipa, with music by Lon Minkus.
URBANA — Violinist and University of Illinois Professor Stefan Milenkovich's concert on Thursday evening at Krannert Center for the Performing Arts has been canceled.
People who purchased tickets to the event are asked to called the Krannert ticket office at 333-6280.
Two local organizations have made significant staff changes at the top.
At WEFT 90.1-FM Radio, the last day for manager Mick Woolf — long the face of the community station — will be Thursday. It's also the final day for membership services coordinator Marty Booth Hodges.
In the first concert of the spring season by the Champaign-Urbana Symphony Orchestra, the guest conductor was David Commanday, who is currently the conductor of the Heartland Festival Orchestra in Peoria.
URBANA — When Papadosio comes Wednesday to the Canopy Club, the band members will also bring a message of unity.
Their latest double-album release, "To End the Illusion of Separation," calls for people "to reject artificial barriers of wealth, class and creed and come together under the flag of humanity."
URBANA — The Conservatory of Central Illinois will present the East Central Illinois Youth Orchestra Winter Concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Smith Memorial Hall, 805 S. Mathews Ave.
Kevin Kelly will direct the orchestra performing works by Richard Wagner, Georges Bizet, Johannes Brahms, Sergei Prokoviev and Igor Stravinsky.
The concert is free and open to the public.
