CHAMPAIGN — The winners of the Young Baroque Artists Competition will perform in concert at 7:30 p.m. April 21 at McKinley Presbyterian Church, 809 S. Fifth St., C.
The program will begin with the presentation of the first- and second-place winners and the three honorable mention performers.
In early March, monster trumpeter Arturo Sandoval sent a tweet to a younger but equally awesome trumpeter, Alison Balsom:
"Italian Concertos. Congratulations, dear Alison, you are simply amazing."
He then suggested the two of them play duets. Looks like that might happen.
URBANA — Pianist Moye Chen, the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts' 2013 Debut Artist, will perform at 3 p.m. April 21 in the Foellinger Great Hall.
Chen received his bachelor's and master's degrees from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and an artist diploma at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. At the University of Illinois, Chen studies with Professor William Heiles.
DANVILLE — The high-flying aerialists and acrobats of Cirque de la Symphonie will perform with the Danville Symphony Orchestra on Saturday at the David S. Palmer Arena, 100 W. Main St.
The Illinois Wind Symphony, conducted by Robert W. Rumbelow, offered a rare highlight at its concert on April 2 — a world premiere by the distinguished composer Aaron Jay Kernis, who has been awarded two Pulitzer Prizes for his music.

Canadian alt-country legend Fred Eaglesmith came to rock like many others — through the Holy Church of Elvis — but he's always interested in something new.
Pop-up galleries, glass-blowing demonstrations, open artist studios and performances — all are among the myriad events taking place this weekend as part of the 11th annual Boneyard Arts Festival.
The festival will encompass more than 100 indoor and outside venues, both traditional and not.
