'Mid-American Gardener' host well-known for teaching - and love of plants and people

ST. JOSEPH — The logistics might make it impossible, but WILL-TV ought to film its weekly program "Mid-American Gardener" at host Dianne Noland's home and garden.

She and her husband and son, Drew, when he's home from Northland College, live in a beautiful rustic log house near the Salt Fork River in rural St. Joseph.

No cause for PBS interference, but problem is fixed

URBANA — PBS may need to call on Sherlock Holmes to solve "The Case of The Scrambled Signal."

But DirecTV viewers in central Illinois may not care, now that they're once again receiving WILL-TV clearly.

In February, DirecTV viewers began having problems getting WILL in the evening and at night — specifically between 5:25 p.m. and 6:25 a.m.

Three Danville natives in town to sing

DANVILLE — First it was Bryan Wilson singing "His Eye Is on the Sparrow" with the Mississippi Children's Choir.

Then it was Jared Yates making it to Hollywood as one of the "American Idol" finalists.

And then, it was Christian Cunningham, winning the teen version of "The Voice" on NBC's "Today" show last month.

Singing contest winner makes hometown proud

DANVILLE — Students throughout the Danville school district flocked to computers on Tuesday, but not to do their classroom assignments.

They were eager to go on to NBC's "Today" website and vote for the person they thought should win the show's national singing competition for kids — in this case, fellow Danville student Christian Cunningham.

A Danville teen has won a national singing contest on NBC's "Today" with Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb.

The co-hosts announced 16-year-old Christian Cunningham as the winner of "The Voice — Kids' Edition" on the show's fourth hour Wednesday.

WILL-TV still looking for interference source

URBANA — Two-and-a-half months after DirecTV customers began having trouble getting WILL-TV clearly, the station remains stymied in its search for the problem.

"It's extremely frustrating," station manager Bob Culkeen said Thursday.

DANVILLE — For more than a decade, 16-year-old Christian Cunningham of Danville has been entertaining local audiences with his smooth singing voice and heartfelt performances.

These past few weeks, he has gotten to showcase his talent before a national audience as a contestant on "The Voice — Kids' Edition," featured on NBC's "Today" with Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb.

Actor Offerman returning to UI for Thursday show

URBANA — Actor Nick Offerman, best known for playing Ron Swanson on the NBC sitcom “Parks and Recreation,” comes to the University of Illinois at 8 p.m. Thursday as part of his “American Ham” comedy tour. The show will be at the Illini Union, 1401 W. Green St., U, in Illini Rooms A, B and C.

Offerman is originally from Minooka and received a bachelor of fine arts degree from the UI.

Cause still not found for interference to WILL signal on DirecTV

URBANA — DirecTV customers have had problems receiving WILL-TV for the last month and a half as a result of interference with the station's signal.

But what's causing the interference has yet to be determined, despite the involvement of the Federal Communications Commission.

Expert on the elements to be featured on PBS series

CHAMPAIGN — Theo Gray has shared the wonders of the chemical elements with the public through a book and through iPad apps.

On Wednesday, he'll get to share them with a national TV audience as a featured guest on "Nova."

The two-hour episode of the PBS science series — to air at 8 p.m. Wednesday on WILL-TV — is called "Hunting The Elements."
