UI student play this weekend

URBANA — University of Illinois students will present the medieval "Play of Antichrist" on Friday and Saturday at the McFarland Memorial Bell Tower on the UI's south quadrangle.


'Steel Magnolias' opens Friday at DHS

DANVILLE — The DHS Players will present their spring production, "Steel Magnolias," at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Dick Van Dyke Auditorium at Danville High School, 202 E. Fairchild St.

The play, written by Robert Harling, depicts the story of the ladies in Truvy's small-town beauty parlor who love each other, even as they argue and gossip about practically everything.


Review: 'Awakening' an eye-opener

The united efforts of The University of Illinois departments of theatre, music and dance exploded on stage Thursday in a stellar opening-night performance of the multiple-Tony Award-winning musical, "Spring Awakening."

'Hairspray' comes to Assembly Hall

The Illini Union Board will present "Hairspray," the musical, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday during Mom's Weekend at the University of Illinois Assembly Hall.

The production is entirely produced, directed and performed by UI students.


CUTC schedules auditions for 'Urinetown'

URBANA — Auditions for "Urinetown, the Musical" — Champaign Urbana Theatre Company's eighth annual Kathy Murphy Student Production — will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at CUTC headquarters, 608 N. Cunningham Ave., U.

Call backs will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, also at the CUTC headquarters.


'Spring Awakening' opens Thursday

URBANA — Described as a high-energy rock musical exploring adolescents' struggles with sexuality, "Spring Awakening" will open Thursday evening at Krannert Center for the Performing Arts.

The University of Illinois Department of Theatre production is directed by New York-based Austin Regan, who worked closely with Michael Mayer, director of the original Broadway production.


'Barefoot in Park' opening Friday in Gibson City

GIBSON CITY — Side by Side Productions will present Neil Simon's "Barefoot in the Park" this upcoming weekend at Father Kirk Memorial Hall, 534 N. Wood St.

The dessert performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $12. To reserve, call 260-782-4378.


Auditions for children's production Monday, Tuesday

DANVILLE — The Red Mask Players theater company will have auditions for the spring children's production, "The Ghost of Canterville Hall," at 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at the Kathryn Randolph Theater, 601 N. Vermilion St.

Auditions are open to children in grades 3-8. Scripts are available for in-house reading at the Danville, Oakwood and Westville public libraries.


Centennial, Central plan spring productions

CHAMPAIGN — The Centennial and Central high school drama departments are gearing up for spring productions, with Centennial presenting a musical and Central a production for children.
