Tuscola grain elevator to get loop railroad for CSX access
TUSCOLA — Cargill's grain elevator in Tuscola is adding a loop railroad track to give it access to the CSX railroad, the company recently announced.
The elevator already has access to the Canadian National and Union Pacific rail lines.
Connecting with the CSX line will give the elevator the ability to ship to markets in the East and Southeast, as well as the Gulf of Mexico.
The Andersons plans its biggest acquisition
MAUMEE, Ohio — The Andersons Inc. has agreed to buy most of the grain and agronomy assets of Green Plains Grain Co. in a deal The Andersons called "the largest acquisition in our company's 65-year history."
The transaction involves the purchase of seven facilities in Iowa and five in Tennessee, according to a release from The Andersons.

MAUMEE, Ohio — Agriculture company The Andersons has agreed to buy an Illinois corn cob products company.
The company's purchase of Mt. Pulaski Products LLC of Mount Pulaski is expected to occur in the fourth quarter and is subject to certain conditions, according to The Andersons.

Andersons reports earnings off 38 percent, but 'much better' than most in industry
MAUMEE, Ohio — The Andersons Inc. posted a 38 percent drop in second-quarter earnings due to lower profits on grain storage and a loss on ethanol production.
The Ohio-based agribusiness on Thursday reported net income of $28.47 million for the quarter that ended June 30, down from $46.04 million for the same quarter a year ago.
Birkey's acquires dealership in Henry
RANTOUL — Birkey's Farm Store has acquired an agricultural equipment dealership in north central Illinois, bringing the company's total number of stores to 12.
Birkey's, a Case IH dealer, signed an agreement with brothers Bill Read, Bob Read and Jerry Read to acquire Read Bros. Inc. in Henry, a town between Peoria and La Salle-Peru.
Vermilion County farmer's Cuba trip shows corn's potential
OAKWOOD — A Vermilion County farmer who returned from Cuba this week says he sees a potential market for Illinois corn there, as well as opportunities for exchanging agricultural knowledge.
Kevin Green, who farms between Fithian and Oakwood, was one of 18 farmers who visited Cuba from June 28 to July 2 as part of an Illinois Farm Bureau delegation.
