Construction trade programs aim to assist minorities

Every Saturday, for 20 weeks, 46 men and women reported to the Physical Plant Service Building on the University of Illinois campus at 7:30 a.m. and worked until 3:30 p.m. Some stayed afterward to continue working; a few even showed up early for the same reason.

Program to help youths with jobs has fewer openings for summer

CHAMPAIGN – William Jones says he is trying to give more than just a job to the eight young employees at Rose and Taylor Barber and Beauty Shop.

He doesn't skimp on descriptions of what he tries to be: an employer, a networking contact, a mentor, a close confidant and "a bridge to another place in their lives."
