BELLEVILLE — Monday is the deadline for applying for Illinois American Water environmental grants.

The company awards grants of up to $10,000 to support activities such as watershed cleanups, reforestation, biodiversity projects, wellhead protection initiatives and hazardous-waste collection efforts.

Economist worried over long-term effects on young unemployed

CHAMPAIGN — The United States faces an unemployment crisis that demands more immediate attention than the nation's debt problem, Nobel Prize-winning economist Peter Diamond said.

URBANA — The Buy-Sell-Trade store in Urbana didn't last for long.

The store, which opened at 105 E. University Ave., U, last June, closed later that year, and its parent company, Springfield-based THR & Associates, filed for bankruptcy Sept. 10.

Now the contents of the store — and six other retail and warehouse locations — are being auctioned off online.
