New jobs

Kempen joins First Financial. John N. Kempen of Mahomet has joined First Financial Bank as senior commercial lending executive for the bank's Western Illinois Region.

That region includes Champaign, Vermilion, McLean and Livingston counties. Kempen will work from the office at 1205 S. Neil St., C.


It's Your Business: Tolono's Launch Pad out to score with batters

Last week's mix of snow and frozen rain made it nasty outside. But thanks to a new indoor batting facility in Tolono, baseball and softball players could still work on their swings.

Randy and Lisa Grace opened The Launch Pad at 111 N. Long St. in Tolono in January. The facility has two batting cages and a workout area.

Environmental grants available

BELLEVILLE — Monday is the deadline for applying for Illinois American Water environmental grants.

The company awards grants of up to $10,000 to support activities such as watershed cleanups, reforestation, biodiversity projects, wellhead protection initiatives and hazardous-waste collection efforts.


Consolidated reports 4Q profits

MATTOON — Consolidated Communications Holdings on Thursday reported net income of $2.23 million for the fourth quarter of 2012.

For shareholders, that translated to diluted earnings of 5 cents per share.


Clinton nuclear plant offline

CLINTON — The Clinton nuclear power station automatically shut down at 8 a.m. today, after the main generator tripped off line, according to an Exelon Corp.


Closed store's oddities up for auction online

URBANA — The Buy-Sell-Trade store in Urbana didn't last for long.

The store, which opened at 105 E. University Ave., U, last June, closed later that year, and its parent company, Springfield-based THR & Associates, filed for bankruptcy Sept. 10.

Now the contents of the store — and six other retail and warehouse locations — are being auctioned off online.

DANVILLE — Freight Car America Inc. is idling its Danville plant, according to company officials.


Business roundup: Supervalu switches up management

MINNEAPOLIS — Supervalu's new CEO, Sam Duncan, on Monday named new presidents to head up the company's Save-A-Lot hard-discount grocery chain and the Shop 'n Save regional chain.

He also announced three additions to executive management as well as three departures.
