Farmland prices hit double-digit increases again

BLOOMINGTON — Illinois farmland prices increased at double-digit percentage rates again last year, a report from the Illinois Society of Professional Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers said.

Business roundup: Groundbreaking set for Danville credit union

DANVILLE — The Danville Bell Credit Union plans to break ground Saturday for a new facility at 3591 N. Vermilion St. in Danville.

The new 3,500-square-foot building near the intersection with Poland Road is expected to open early this fall. The credit union's current office is at 307 N. Walnut St., Danville.

Home sales, prices up in February from year earlier

CHAMPAIGN — February home sales in the Champaign County area were up 13.5 percent from a year earlier, the Champaign County Association of Realtors reported.

The association's Multiple Listing Service said 109 single-family homes were sold in February, up from 96 homes in February 2012.

Clinton nuclear plant back on line

CLINTON — Exelon Corp.’s Clinton nuclear plant returned to full power Sunday, three days after an automatic shutdown due to a fuse failure, the company said.

Exelon said the unit shut down at 8 a.m. Thursday when the main generator tripped off line. The trip resulted from the failure of a fuse, which has since been replaced.

Kempen joins First Financial. John N. Kempen of Mahomet has joined First Financial Bank as senior commercial lending executive for the bank's Western Illinois Region.

That region includes Champaign, Vermilion, McLean and Livingston counties. Kempen will work from the office at 1205 S. Neil St., C.

It's Your Business: Tolono's Launch Pad out to score with batters

Last week's mix of snow and frozen rain made it nasty outside. But thanks to a new indoor batting facility in Tolono, baseball and softball players could still work on their swings.

Randy and Lisa Grace opened The Launch Pad at 111 N. Long St. in Tolono in January. The facility has two batting cages and a workout area.

2 credit unions in area downgraded

Two area credit unions were downgraded in BauerFinancial's latest ratings, based on regulatory data from Dec. 31.

Danville Consolidated Credit Union was downgraded from 3-star ("adequate") to 2-star ("problematic").

Also downgraded was Lauhoff Employees Credit Union in Danville, which dropped from 5-star ("superior") to 4-star ("excellent").
