Urbana teen gets juvenile prison for aggravated battery

URBANA — A 15-year-old Urbana boy who admitted he exposed himself to and touched a younger girl inappropriately has been sentenced to juvenile prison for an indeterminate time.

URBANA — An Urbana teen who allegedly made inappropriate contact with a 12-year-old girl he met through Facebook, despite being warned by her parents to stop, has been criminally charged with felony offenses.

Students have chance to see appellate court in action

DANVILLE — Danville Area Community College students have a unique opportunity to see the 4th District Appellate Court in action next week.

On Wednesday morning, the court is moving its proceedings from its courtroom in Springfield to Room 302 at Vermilion Hall on DACC's campus to give students the experience of viewing a session and hearing a case or two.

— 1400 block of Holly Hill Drive: Photographs, electronic game accessories, three televisions, a safe, jewelry and an electronic gaming system taken in a residential burglary reported Saturday.

— 300 block of West Springfield Avenue: Car stolen Tuesday.

Teen charged with Urbana break-in

URBANA — A 15-year-old Champaign youth was charged Thursday with residential burglary after allegedly breaking into a home in east Urbana on Wednesday.

Champaign County sheriff's Sgt. Dan Coile said a 36-year-old woman arrived home about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday to see a young man walking down Scottswood Drive carrying a flat-screen television.

Urbana veteran honored for rescuing his family from fiery wreck

CHAMPAIGN — Trapped between two semitrailers, surrounded by flames and smoke, as diesel fuel spilled out and began to pool under his Pontiac G6, Mark Rogers shoved open his passenger side door, leapt out and rolled over in the grass to smother the flames on his body.

Mahomet man charged with burglary, trespass to vehicle

URBANA — A Mahomet man was criminally charged Thursday after he allegedly got in another man's van without the owner's permission.

Mahomet Police Chief Mike Metzler said a man living in the 200 block of North Jefferson Street reported seeing a man inside his neighbor's van about 9:15 p.m. Wednesday. The neighbor yelled at the person in the van and the man took off.

Champaign man accused of fondling woman

URBANA — A Champaign man was charged with a sex crime Thursday after he allegedly fondled an employee of his apartment complex in his apartment.

Shawn Banks, 38, who lives in the Countrybrook Apartments in the 2600 block of West Springfield Avenue, was arrested Wednesday afternoon for allegedly groping a 21-year-old woman working there.

Rural St. Joe man facing charges over wallet

URBANA — A 57-year-old rural St. Joseph man who allegedly stole a man's lost wallet containing $700 cash has been charged with a crime.

Urbana police Sgt. Dan Morgan said on Feb. 28, a 50-year-old Tuscola man unknowingly dropped his wallet in the parking lot of the Wal-Mart store on High Cross Road then drove off. Seconds later, a man picked it up and also drove away.

Champaign man admits pot charge, gets prison

URBANA — A Champaign man who admitted having cannabis in his home intended for sale was sentenced Thursday to four years in prison.

Raymond Barneske, 51, whose last known address was in the 900 block of Ford Harris Road, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to deliver cannabis for having about 6 ounces (183 grams) of cannabis in his house on Dec. 12.
