MAHOMET – When Vicki Niswander thinks about all the ways her developmentally disabled daughter, Annie, has amazed her over the years, there's one occasion that especially stands out in her memory.
It was back when Annie was an eighth-grader, and part of her homework was to describe in three sentences what happens in the first scene of Shakespeare's "Hamlet."
CHAMPAIGN – The city and school district have reached tentative agreement over special districts in downtown Champaign and on the south University of Illinois campus.
The agreement will clear the way for the school district to get more money and the land on the south campus to be developed.
URBANA – The summer will go down in Ota Dossett's books as the season floor tiles randomly released.
And they weren't the only unexpected issues Dossett, Urbana schools' facilities director, and his employees encountered during their summer sweep getting all district schools cleaned, repaired and ready for the new school year, at a cost of about $670,000 – about $70,000 more than planned.
OAKWOOD – Fifth-grader Elizabeth Gutterridge lives across the street from a farm, but she never knew how important agriculture is in everyday life and football until Tuesday.
