CHAMPAIGN — Urbana Middle School will host a Book Fair from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday at Barnes and Noble in Champaign. The store is at 65 N. Market St., C.
The school's orchestra, band and chorus will perform throughout the day. Middle school students will read to children that day, and student art work will be displayed throughout the store.
CHAMPAIGN — With young men sporting ties and slacks, polos and khakis, and the young women wearing dress pants, button-down shirts and heels, students involved in the Champaign-Urbana One-to-One Mentoring program looked ready for the workforce Friday.
The students were interviewing for summer internships in clothing donated by Jimmy John's.

TUCSON, Ariz. — An Arizona community college has hired former Parkland College President Zelema Harris as its interim chancellor.
The governing board of Pima Community College in Tucson, Ariz., voted unanimously earlier this week to appoint Harris as interim chancellor, effective April 15.
Harris will remain at the post until a permanent chancellor is chosen.
DANVILLE — Danville Area Community College students have a unique opportunity to see the 4th District Appellate Court in action next week.
On Wednesday morning, the court is moving its proceedings from its courtroom in Springfield to Room 302 at Vermilion Hall on DACC's campus to give students the experience of viewing a session and hearing a case or two.
CHAMPAIGN — The Champaign school district has won a $320,000, two-year grant that will help train sixth- through 12th-grade science teachers.
The grant, from the Illinois State Board of Education, is for the Partnership for Implementing the Framework for K-12 Science Education program.
SAVOY — The Champaign school district is facing some challenges, but the school district is making progress, Champaign Superintendent Judy Wiegand told a small crowd of parents and community members Thursday.
Wiegand gave a "State of the District" address at Carrie Busey Elementary in Savoy.
DANVILLE — Vermilion County businesswoman, community volunteer and philanthropist Sybil Mervis was named the 2012 First Citizen by the Danville Chapter of AMBUCS, members announced Thursday.
A banquet honoring Mervis is being planned at Turtle Run Banquet Center in Danville. Details will be released at a later date.
CHAMPAIGN — Several Champaign residents are hosting a grass-roots, interactive workshop to talk about their ideas for where the school district should put a new Central High School.
It's scheduled from 1-4 p.m. Sunday in the Foundation Room, Room 222, of the Champaign Public Library, 200 W. Green St., C.
GEORGETOWN — Candidates for the Georgetown-Ridge Farm school board answered questions and gave their views to an audience of about 65 at a forum this week.
Three four-year seats on the board will be up for election on April 9, as will one two-year seat.
