Hearing set in Monticello on Clinton landfill legislation

MONTICELLO — An Illinois House committee will hold a hearing in Monticello next week on legislation aimed at prohibiting the dumping of PCBs at a DeWitt County landfill.

Boil order issued in Oakwood

OAKWOOD — Oakwood residents are under a boil order until further notice.

The boil order is due to a water main break.

Piper City bans burning; village asks residents to use less water

PIPER CITY - The Piper City Village Board has issued a burn ban until further notice.

The ban, which includes trash burning, campfires and brush piles, is prompted by the drought. Violators will be given one warning by Fred Fanning, chief of police, before a fine is levied for a second offense.

Plans outlined for high-voltage line

CHAMPAIGN — Ameren Transmission has outlined several potential route corridors it may use for a high-voltage transmission line connecting its Sidney and Rising substations.

All the potential corridors run west from Sidney to points along or west of Interstate 57, then north to the Rising substation northwest of Champaign.

Electronics recycling set for Saturday

CHAMPAIGN — Another countywide residential electronics recycling will be held Saturday at The News-Gazette Distribution Center, 3202 Apollo Drive, C.

The event will be from 8 a.m. to noon. Access to the distribution center is at the intersection of North Market Street and East Olympian Drive.

Group upset over tree removal at Lake of the Woods

MAHOMET — A group of avid users of a large section of Lake of the Woods Forest Preserve in Mahomet is upset about the way dozens of trees have been removed this year without any notification or discussion.

The group hopes to voice its displeasure at a meeting of the forest preserve board at 6 p.m. today at the Izaak Walton Cabin at Lake of the Woods.

ROYAL — Construction of a 214-megawatt wind farm in Vermilion and Champaign counties is on schedule and should be completed later this year, according to an official with Invenergy LLC, a Chicago-based energy company.
