DANVILLE — The good news: Fewer Vermilion County high school students are drinking alcohol, smoking cigarettes and marijuana, attempting suicide, and using unhealthy methods to lose weight.
Champaign County United Way short of goal by 9 percent
CHAMPAIGN — Contributions to the United Way of Champaign County are running behind, with less than three months left to meet the agency’s $3.3 million goal.
As of Tuesday, the United Way had raised a bit over $3.03 million, about 9 percent behind where fundraising was at this time last year, says United Way President and CEO Sue Grey.

Dog's battle won, now owner fights cancer
URBANA — The veterinarians at the University of Illinois have pulled Keri Bradbury's dog, Nakita, through a near-fatal case of tetanus.
Now it's up to doctors to do what they can for Bradbury.
A 40-year-old Pontiac mother of two, Bradbury said she learned she has colorectal cancer within a day of finding out her dog had tetanus.

URBANA — University of Illinois students are hoping to help the American Red Cross raise money to vaccinate more children in developing countries against measles.
The UI American Red Cross Club will continue selling measles buttons on the UI Quad from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. through Friday for $1 each.
Catlin residents included in documentary about families, autism
"The United States of Autism," a documentary about families living with autism set to premier in New York City on April 5, will include Catlin residents Tim and Cheri Welsh and their son, Tanner.
It will be shown at the Savoy 16 theater at 7 p.m. April 23 and help raise money for three organizations, he said.
