Atwood-Hammond merges with Arthur school district

ATWOOD — Residents of two school districts have voted to be combined into a single district.

Voters in the Atwood-Hammond school district voted 456 to 327 on Tuesday to be annexed to the Arthur school district, while voters in the Arthur school district voted 967 to 242 to approve the annexation.

Ayers, Bennett re-elected to Parkland board

CHAMPAIGN — Longtime Parkland College trustees Tom Bennett and James Ayers have been re-elected to the community college board.

Kyles wins second term on Champaign council

CHAMPAIGN — Will Kyles said the next four years will be about employment, diversity and infrastructure in his city council District 1 after winning a second term on Tuesday.

He collected 213 votes to challenger Gina Jackson's 149. Jackson was trying to return to the Champaign City Council after retiring following her first term in 2009.

Updated: MacAdam, Stuckey, Bonnett win Champaign school board seats

Updated 10:42 p.m. Tuesday.

CHAMPAIGN — Scott MacAdam, Lynn Stuckey and Laurie Bonnett won the top votes in a close Champaign school board race for three contested four-year seats.

MacAdam won the most votes, with 2,043. Stuckey followed with 1,739 votes and then Bonnett with 1,721.

Residents criticize plan for Champaign subsidized housing

CHAMPAIGN — More than 100 people packed the Champaign City Council chambers Tuesday night, many of them there to criticize a plan to put subsidized housing in west Champaign near the Turnberry Ridge subdivision.
