Musician seeks order of protection against Gerard; mayor denies accusations

CHAMPAIGN — A new filing asking a judge for an order of protection against Champaign Mayor Don Gerard alleges the mayor harassed a musician during a volunteer event on Saturday.

Jim Bean, a Champaign musician, says he was in the middle of a song during the event when Gerard allegedly approached Bean and accused Bean of harassing Gerard's daughter.

Indiana driver hurt in Ford crash; Buckley woman ticketed

PAXTON — A Buckley woman was ticketed following a crash in Ford County that she allegedly caused Tuesday morning.

Illinois State Police from Ashkum said Janice S. Nieman, 53, was driving south on Interstate 57 in the right lane when she pulled in front of another car in the passing lane to avoid traffic that was merging onto the interstate.

Danville council ward meetings start Thursday

DANVILLE — A series of city ward meetings kick off on Thursday, giving all residents in the city the opportunity to voice concerns or ask questions about city services.

The city's human relations commission is sponsoring the ward meetings, which are informal and open to the public.

Champaign County United Way short of goal by 9 percent

CHAMPAIGN — Contributions to the United Way of Champaign County are running behind, with less than three months left to meet the agency’s $3.3 million goal.

As of Tuesday, the United Way had raised a bit over $3.03 million, about 9 percent behind where fundraising was at this time last year, says United Way President and CEO Sue Grey.

Danville street paving scheduled

DANVILLE — The following streets will be paved beginning Wednesday, weather permitting, according to Danville officials.

The portions being paved will be closed at times during the day over the next four days. City officials urge drivers to use caution throughout the work zones and to pay particular attention to street division traffic control and personnel flagging in the streets.

First Citizen banquet set in Danville

DANVILLE — The 80th annual First Citizen Banquet honoring Sybil Stern Mervis will be held April 30 at Turtle Run Banquet Center, 332 E. Liberty Lane, Danville.

A cash bar and reception will be held at 6 p.m., and a dinner will follow at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets are $25 apiece, payable at the door.

Pizza giveaway to help Danville club

DANVILLE — Papa Murphy's Pizza in Danville is sponsoring a pizza giveaway on April 17 to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Danville.

Bay Harbor files for bankruptcy protection

CHAMPAIGN — A Champaign apartment rental business has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

Bay Harbor Apartments LLC is seeking to reorganize its debts as a result of the March 18 filing in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Danville.

The company, represented by Champaign attorney Brett Kepley, reported total assets of $2.89 million and total liabilities of $8.82 million.
