$6 million setback

URBANA — A property tax exemption given to the Carle Foundation will cost more than two dozen taxing districts in Champaign County nearly $6 million in lost revenue this year.


Winners of baroque competition to be featured in concert

CHAMPAIGN — The winners of the Young Baroque Artists Competition will perform in concert at 7:30 p.m. April 21 at McKinley Presbyterian Church, 809 S. Fifth St., C.

The 27-year-old doctoral student at the University of Illinois started a gun-parts business in high school.

He turned his attention to fuels in college, converting waste grease into biodiesel and "slop oil" into pipeline-grade oil.


Pianist Moye Chen will perform on April 21

URBANA — Pianist Moye Chen, the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts' 2013 Debut Artist, will perform at 3 p.m. April 21 in the Foellinger Great Hall.

Chen received his bachelor's and master's degrees from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and an artist diploma at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. At the University of Illinois, Chen studies with Professor William Heiles.


Single-car accident west of Champaign injures one

CHAMPAIGN - A person was injured in a single-car accident just west of Champaign on Interstate 72 about 9:15 p.m. Saturday.

Preliminary information from Illinois State Police was that there was only one person in the car on eastbound 72. The car reportedly left the road and hit a tree near mile marker 178, which is near Bondville.


Man accused of mother's death has history of mental illness

URBANA — A Champaign man accused of fatally stabbing his mother then setting a fire to cover the death has a history of mental illness, according to court documents and police reports.
