URBANA — A local troupe of belly dancers will host a fundraising event for the Champaign County Humane Society from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at The Iron Post, 120 S. Race St.

RSVP and the Stevick Senior Center are administered by Family Services of Champaign County.
CHAMPAIGN — The Krannert Art Museum Council will host its 21st annual "Petals & Paintings" benefit from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Friday at the museum, 500 E. Peabody Drive.
The Champaign-Urbana Elks Lodge 2497 has named Sydney Orr of Savoy and Sean Kelley of Philo as recipients of the ELKS National Foundation's Most Valuable Student Scholarship awards.
Orr and Kelley will receive $500 a year for four years.
CHAMPAIGN — The American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Champaign County has two fundraisers coming up: one Saturday and the other next Sunday.
The first is Music For A Cure from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday at the Rose Bowl Tavern, 106 N. Race St., U. Local musicians John Coppess, John McMahon, Anne Clements and Margaret O'Brien will perform.

At a Thursday banquet at the Hilton Garden Inn in Champaign, Ranija Turner will be honored as the Young Woman of Distinction.
CHAMPAIGN — With math and science being her favorite subjects, it's not surprising that Ranija Turner is considering a career in medicine.
The 17-year-old from Champaign has already spent more time in hospitals than most teens because her father has suffered from a debilitating heart condition for the last 10 years.
CHAMPAIGN — Passes to all 12 movies and two shorts are sold out for the 15th annual Roger Ebert's Film Festival, taking place April 17-21 at the Virginia Theatre and the University of Illinois.
The Virginia has a waiting list in case a pass holder cannot attend. In the event additional passes become available, those on the list will be contacted.
Twenty-one restaurants in Champaign County failed health inspections between September 2012 and the end of February, with critical violations ranging from improper storage of food to employees failing to wash their hands.
Six were temporarily shut down.
Chaz Ebert will be here to emcee her late husband's 15th annual festival at the Virginia Theatre in Champaign.
"As of now, she will be here, and the festival will go on pretty much as planned," festival director Nate Kohn said Friday morning, a day after Roger Ebert's death in Chicago.
