Blue Angels cancel, so Rockford AirFest postponed
ROCKFORD, Ill. (AP) — Chicago Rockford International Airport officials say they're postponing AirFest 2013 after the Blue Angels pulled out of the show.
Bement schools chief takes new job
BEMENT — School Superintendent Daniel Brue has accepted the top post in the Meridian school district, a job he will take over on July 1.
Brue, who has been at the 322-student Bement district for four years, said he is looking forward to the challenge at Meridian, a school system with an enrollment of 1,021 located just south of Decatur.

Wiegand's 'State of the District' set for Thursday
CHAMPAIGN — School district Superintendent Judy Wiegand will visit the Champaign PTA Council's meeting Thursday night and give a "State of the District Address."
The meeting is open to the public and is set for 7 p.m. Thursday at Carrie Busey Elementary, 304 Prairie Rose Lane, Savoy. Wiegand will also answer questions after her speech.
More mortgage help available to homeowners
A program to help struggling Illinois homeowners with their mortgages has increased the amount of mortgage assistance it can provide.
The Illinois Hardest Hit program, operated by the Illinois Housing Development Authority, can now provide $35,000 in mortgage assistance per household, up from its previous limit of $25,000.
Housing Authority sponsors development in west Champaign
CHAMPAIGN — The Housing Authority of Champaign County is sponsoring a proposed 160-unit housing development north of Turnberry Ridge subdivision on Champaign's west side.
The development — a companion project to the redevelopment of Joann Dorsey Homes at Bradley and McKinley avenues — is to be built on 12 acres at 702 Cobblefield Road.
Fisher sets 2nd meeting on plan for shared fitness center
FISHER — A committee of village, school and community representatives will meet again at 5:30 p.m. April 24 in the high school library to further discuss opening and running a joint school/community fitness center.
Sidney water-rate increase up for approval
SIDNEY — Village officials next month will decide whether to approve a resolution increasing Sidney's water rates by 4 percent.
Gibson City assisted-living committee meeting with developer
GIBSON CITY — An assisted-living facility may be coming soon to Gibson City.
The new, council-appointed Assisted Living Committee recently held its first meeting to hear from an interested developer. A second presentation by another developer is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday at the council chambers at City Hall.
Retail incentive program coming back May 1 to Gibson City
GIBSON CITY — Gibson City will conduct another "Buy Gibson City" retail incentive program beginning May 1. This is the first time the city has ever run the program in consecutive years.
