More work scheduled for areas near Boneyard in Urbana

URBANA — More lane closures north of downtown Urbana are scheduled to begin this week while workers continue to make progress on a $7.9 million package of upgrades to areas around the Boneyard Creek.

Light poles to be replaced on Fairchild Street in Danville

DANVILLE — The city's public works crews will be replacing street poles on Fairchild Street in the next two weeks.

Poles will be replaced along Fairchild Street from Gilbert Street to Vermilion Street. The project begins Monday and will require single-lane closures and will be done during the day.

The project is expected to last two weeks, weather permitting.

Bridge work to close Race Street

URBANA — A key thoroughfare in downtown Urbana will close completely for about three months beginning Monday.

Workers will demolish and replace the Race Street bridge over the Boneyard Creek as part of a $7.9 million project to beautify the area immediately surrounding the creek through a portion of downtown Urbana.

Grant to help Urbana pay for Airport Road work

URBANA — The city will get a $1.4 million economic development grant from the state to cover some of the cost of a planned $3 million Airport Road reconstruction.

Mobile app allows reporting of potholes to city

CHAMPAIGN — As the spring pothole season nears, Champaign residents have a new way of reporting non-emergency issues to the city's public works department — right from their mobile phones.

City officials say the mobile app, SeeClickFix, will make reporting potholes, burned-out street lights, graffiti, roadkill and other minor problems easier for residents and public works crews.

Part of Beardsley to close for repairs

CHAMPAIGN — A portion of Beardsley Avenue in north Champaign will be closed to traffic for the next few days.

The city of Champaign reports that Duce Construction will conduct storm sewer and pavement repairs on Beardsley Avenue between Champaign and Market streets. During the repairs, Beardsley will be closed to all through traffic between Champaign Street and Market Street.

Green Street to be squeezed for months for new apartment building

CHAMPAIGN — Look for traffic on Green Street to be squeezed as preparations for a new apartment building get under way this month.

Beginning Monday, a portion of the westbound lane between First and Second streets will be closed to accommodate construction of a five-story apartment building at 112 E. Green St., C.

Country Club Road to be closed next week

URBANA — Weather permitting, Country Club Road from Coler to Cunningham avenues will be closed to through traffic beginning at 7 a.m. Monday to 5 p.m. Saturday for sanitary sewer construction associated with the Crystal Lake Park Aquatic Center.

Rantoul road to reopen

RANTOUL — South Murray Road, on the west side of the village, is expected to be open in the next couple of days.

Greg Hazel, Rantoul public works superintendent, said the turn lane on the north end of the project was completed last week.

County board OKs first step for Dewey-Fisher Road work; Kurtz to seek chair

URBANA — The first step on an approximately $6 million reconstruction of the Dewey-Fisher Road in northwestern Champaign County was approved Thursday by the Champaign County Board.

Also Thursday, the first of what could be multiple candidates for county board chairman announced his interest in the job.
