URBANA — Traffic will be limited on a portion of University Avenue in Urbana for about two weeks while fiber-optic conduit and hand holes are installed.
Periodic lane closures are planned on a west lane of University from Lincoln Avenue to Wright Street beginning at 7 a.m. Monday.
Two-way traffic will be maintained on University Avenue at all times throughout the project.
URBANA — Traffic will be reduced on Vine Street in Urbana beginning Monday while a water main is repaired.
The outside lane of north traffic on Vine will be closed between Main Street and the entrance to the Schnucks supermarket beginning at 7 a.m. Monday for water main work.
The lane will remain closed until the repair has been completed.
DANVILLE — On Monday, crews demolished one of the two buildings on property the city recently purchased from Schomburg and Schomburg construction to make way for the Fairchild Street subway replacement project.
DANVILLE — Almost two years ago, Danville city officials closed the South Griffin Street bridge on the south edge of the city, because the structure was not sound.
But now federal dollars are available to replace it, if that's what aldermen decide to do.
DANVILLE — The city's public works department is closing Fairchild Street between Collett Street and Jewell Street on Monday and Tuesday for building demolition.
Here are upcoming street closures in Urbana and Champaign:
— Cunningham Avenue between Perkins Road and University Avenue in Urbana will behave periodic lane closures beginning at 7 a.m. Monday through 5 p.m. Feb. 26.
The closures will allow for installation of fiber optic conduit. Two-way traffic will be open at all times.
CHAMPAIGN — Saying the money will start to chip away at $60 million worth of desperately needed road improvements, the city council on Tuesday night voted to begin collecting 4 cents per gallon of gas sold in Champaign starting in May.
CHAMPAIGN — Facing a $60 million backlog of unfunded road projects, city council members next week could give final approval to a proposed 4 cent-per-gallon gas tax — in what promises to be a close vote.
Local business leaders are opposing the new tax: The Champaign County Chamber of Commerce says it will put more of a burden on businesses, which are already facing higher fuel costs.
URBANA — One or more lanes of Vine Street from Fairlawn Drive to Oregon Street may be closed starting at 7:30 a.m. Thursday through 7:30 p.m. Friday while a contractor for the Urbana Champaign Sanitary District continues maintenance work on sanitary interceptors.
Two streets in Urbana will be affected today by maintenance work on sewer lines.
Meanwhile, a couple of city streets in Champaign will have lane closures due to work expected to begin Monday, and another Urbana street will be affected by sewer work on Tuesday.
