DANVILLE — There's less than a week for the bells to keep ringing, and the Salvation Army in Danville needs lots of help to meet its fundraising goal for this holiday season.
"This year, we're very much behind," said the Salvation Army's Captain Judy Lowder.
CHAMPAIGN — Two local charities holding their major holiday fund drives have quite a few more dollars to raise.
The Salvation Army of Champaign County hopes to bring in $456,000 by Christmas Eve through its annual Red Kettle Drive.
But as of Monday, the red kettles were short more than $85,000, said Corps Officer Major Tom McDowell.
URBANA — When the National Guard Unit in Urbana asked for some toys to give to the children coming to its family Christmas party, local stores were generous.
So very generous, in fact, the guard unit has plenty of toys left over to donate to local families in need.
DANVILLE — A Boys & Girls Club of Danville reception to welcome new Executive Director Rob Gifford has been moved to Wednesday.

DANVILLE — Boys & Girls Club of Danville officials may have conducted a broad search for their next leader, but they found him close to home.
Rob Gifford, a lifelong Danville resident, was hired as the organization's executive director on Nov. 30. He started the job on Monday.

CHAMPAIGN — Before you pick up breakfast or lunch at a drive-through Wednesday, thousands of Champaign County kids are counting on you to give something away at a special drive-through that day at Carle.
The Carle/Salvation Army toy drive that got under way in mid-November will wrap up later this week.
DANVILLE — The Danville Family YMCA is the recipient of an AT&T "Investing in Illinois" award.
The award provides resources and recognition to organizations and programs that improve lives in their communities and the state by advancing education, economic growth, new technologies and other essential community services.
WESTVILLE — Santas Anonymous has added another location where people can drop off Christmas presents for needy children.
A collection barrel has been placed at Casey's General Store at 750 S. State St., Westville.
